# Update Agent Settings

> Update the agent settings for an inbox.

At least one of `instructions`, `tone`, or `enabled_actions` is required.
Omitted fields keep their current value. The agent is created when the inbox
has none. A body with none of these keys returns a `422`, even when it has
other keys.

## Path Parameters

  The Inbox ID. An email address is not accepted.

## Body Parameters

<ParamField body="instructions" type="string | null">
  Instructions the agent follows when handling the inbox's threads. Max 4000
  characters. Leading and trailing whitespace is trimmed, and the trimmed value
  must not be empty. Send `null` to clear them.

  Tone the agent writes in. Send `null` to clear it.

<ParamField body="enabled_actions" type="string[]">
  Actions the agent is allowed to take. Replaces the whole set. Duplicates are
  removed. Each entry must be one of `draft_reply`, `forward_thread`,
  `add_labels`, `assign_thread`, `mark_as_spam`, `archive_thread`, or
  `delete_thread`. Send an empty array to disable all actions.
